Industrial Automotive Design Partners With Streit Group, Launches New Vehicle

Industrial and Automotive Design (IAD) South Africa has launched a new protected vehicle, the Nyoka Mk 2, and announced a joint venture with vehicle armourers Streit Group at the Africa Aerospace and Defence exhibition 2012.
Streit Group specialises in armouring and provides up-armouring and armoured vehicles independently, or in partnership with OEMs. The company has delivered more than 20 000 vehicles, many of which have served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Streit's growing portfolio includes personal protection vehicles, cash-in transit vehicles, heavy-duty cash-in-transit trucks, law-enforcement vehicles and vehicles for military tactical units. Armouring can also be provided for existing civilian platforms such as custom-built luxury sedans and SUVs.
The joint venture between IAD, a specialist automotive design company, and Streit means the companies can broaden their product lines, allowing them to offer a range of commercial and paramilitary vehicles.
During the AAD 2012 show, IAD and Saudi Groups launched a new vehicle, the Noyka Mk 2 mine-protected armoured personnel carrier (APC), which will be marketed throughout Africa by the joint venture. It was first unveiled by Saudi Groups in 2011 as the Masmak.
The APC is a 4x4 vehicle powered by a 450 hp six-cylinder diesel, giving a top speed of 150 km/h and a cruising speed of 120 km/h. A more powerful 530 hp diesel engine can also be supplied. Standard range is 700 km.
A 12.7 mm machine gun turret is mounted on the roof, and is equipped with a 40 mm grenade launcher mounting. In addition, the APC has 12 firing ports.
The 15 tonne vehicle features all-round protection against 7.62 mm calibre ammunition (to NATO STANAG Level 3) and can withstand anti-tank mine blasts equivalent to 14 kg of TNT directly under the hull or under any wheel. Run-flat tyres and a centre tyre inflation system are standard.
The Masmak/Nyoka Mk 2 can carry three tonnes of payload or six to eight fully equipped troops in addition to the driver and commander, in APC configuration. It can also be used as a battlefield ambulance, command vehicle and weapon platform.
